Mary Jo (Monroe) Goins

Life story Mary Jo Goins, age 87, of Madison, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at River Terrace Health Campus in Madison. Born July 7, 1933 in Switzerland County, Indiana, she was the daughter of Robert D. and Norine C. (Clements) Monroe. Mrs. Goins moved to Jefferson County during her freshman year of high school, and was a 1951 graduate of the former Central High School. She was a homemaker after the birth of her son, but previously worked as secretary to Dr. M.W. Kemp, Superintendent of Madison State Hospital, at Meese, Inc. and the former Pearl Packing Company. On February 21, 1954, she was united in marriage to Benjamin L. "Bennie" Goins at the Madison First Baptist Church. She was a member of Madison First Baptist Church, and the Women's League and Mixed Couple's League bowling teams for over fifty years. She won the Rachel Abbott Achievement Award in bowling and was inducted into the women's bowling Hall of Fame in 1997. She enjoyed crocheting, Crewel, cross stich, reading, and watching Judge Judy and TV mysteries. She will be sadly missed by her son, Gregory W. Goins of Madison; one brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Sherry Monroe of Madison; several nieces and nephews, several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, and a dear friend, Debi Gaylord of Madison. She was preceded in death by her father on December 3, 1972; her mother on March 12, 2002; her husband on March 27, 2016; and her nephew, Dean Alan Monroe on May 28, 2019. Reverend Randy Crutchfield and Reverend Chris Chavez will conduct funeral services at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, November 18, 2020 at Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, Madison's Hilltop, with interment to follow in Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery. Friends and family may call at Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, from 11:00 AM until the time of the service on Wednesday.
