Mr. Michael C. Cosby, age 78, of Hanover, Indiana, and the son of the late William and Virginia (Inskeep) Cosby, was born on July 18, 1944, in Madison, Indiana. He attended Broadway School from first through sixth grades, and then attended Madison Junior and Senior High School, graduating in 1964. After graduating, he worked for Reliance Electric Corporation. In July 1965, he was drafted into the United States Army. He took his basic training at Fort Knox, Kentucky and advanced training at Fort Hood, Texas with "C" Company 124 Armor Division. He served in Vietnam with the 1099th Medium Boat Transportation Company in Saigon from February 1966 through February 1967 and was honorably discharged on July 6, 1967. In 1967 following his military service, he went to work for Indiana Kentucky Electric Corporation where he became the Maintenance Supervisor until his retirement.
On December 12, 2007, he was united in marriage to Terri (Jones) Cosby in Carrollton, Kentucky. He was a member of the former Ebenezer United Methodist Church where he was Past President of Trustees, the Coalition against Substance Abuse for Jefferson County Incorporated, the Kennel Club of Columbus, Indiana Inc. where he served as past president, the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 524 Past Trustees, the Viet Nam Veterans of America, and was a charter member of the Madison Chapter NAACP, Madison. He was a lifetime member of the Major Samuel Woodfill Post #9, American Legion of Madison, the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post #129 Madison, and the Disabled American Veterans. He served on the Madison Mayor's Human Relations Committee from 1980-1982.
He was a member of the Eureka Lodge #30 PHA (Past Master), the Tyre Shrine Temple #129 Deputy of Oasis (Past Illustrious Potentate), St. Andrew Chapter of Holy Royal Arch Mason Haile Salasse #8 (Past High Priest), Malta Consistory # 34 (Past Commander-in-Chief), and a member of The United Supreme Council Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry 33 degree class of Alvin H. Swiggett 2001. Mr. Cosby passed away on Sunday, October 30, 2022 at his home in Hanover.
His life will be cherished by his wife of almost fifteen years, Terri of Hanover; his children: Melissa Cosby of Berlin, Germany, Kelli Baker and her companion, Matt Arfmann of Madison and Shane Baker and his companion, Judi of Hanover; his grandchildren: Tristan Fischbeck and Corbin Fischbeck, both of Berlin, Germany, Baxter Baker and Malli Baker, both of Madison, and Makayla Arfmann of Madison and Aaron Arfmann of Crosby, Texas; his sister: Patricia Wilkins and her husband, Ray of Anderson, Indiana; his niece: Rachel Gordon and her husband, Gary of Louisville, Kentucky; several nieces and nephews, and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, David Cosby.
Reverend Harvey Leggett, Jr. and Reverend Johnny Edward will conduct funeral services at 2:00 PM Friday, November 4, 2022 at the River Valley Community Church, 2535 Clifty Drive, Madison with interment to follow in Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison. Friends and family may call at River Valley Community Church from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, November 3, 2022 and from 1:00 PM until the time of the service on Friday at the church.
Masonic memorial services will be conducted at 7:00 PM Thursday, November 3, 2022 at River Valley Community Church. The honor guards of the United States Army and the Major Samuel Woodfill Post #9, American Legion will conduct military honors on Friday.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Masonic Eureka Lodge #30. Contributions may be made at the Lytle Welty Funeral Home or below.
