Randall Stucker Obituary

Randall (Randy) Lee Stucker, a Christian leader of the deaf community and devout member of Calvary Baptist Church of Clearwater Florida for 40 years, died May 12, 2022, at Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater.  He was 65 years old.

Randy Stucker, who became deaf as a toddler, attended the Indiana School for the Deaf at Indianapolis graduating with the Class of 1976.  A member of the Boy Scouts, and active in football, basketball, wrestling and baseball, Randy excelled at both academics and sports serving as student co-manager of the basketball team.   In 1978, Randy joined his father, mother, and sister to work in the Stucker's family grocery store, Convenient Food Mart in Largo, FL. Later he co-owned and managed the store with his brother, Robert, as Rainbow Food Mart.  The two brothers retired and sold the successful neighborhood store in 2001.

After retirement, Randy gave his time and energy volunteering for the Florida Baptist Conference for the Deaf (FBCD) for over ten years serving as First Vice President, President, and then Treasurer. He was also a member of the History Committee for the Southern Baptist Conference for the Deaf (SBCD).  Randy offered his artistic talents performing in the play "Judgement House" and singing with the Calvary deaf choir which toured the Clearwater area visiting many nursing homes boosting the moods of the elderly community. Most heartwarming of all, Randy, with his signature natural white beard and jolly demeanor, sat as a Signing Santa at International Plaza in Tampa welcoming deaf and hard of hearing children to share their Christmas wishes.  For recreation and relaxation, he enjoyed league bowling, cheering on his favorite sports teams (Cincinnati Reds, Tampa Bay Rays, and the Buccaneers), and camping with his wife and generations of Shetland Sheepdogs.

Randy was born two months premature in Madison, Indiana on June 25, 1956, to William Allen and Catherine Lucille (Berry) Stucker.  He was preceded in death by both parents; his two brothers, Jerry Wayne Stucker, and Robert Allen Stucker; and his sister, Jolene Annette Stucker White.

Randy is survived by his loving wife; Patricia Kay (Palmer) Stucker; a stepson, Ronald Whitford Tanfield Jr of Clearwater, FL; a stepdaughter Kay (Tanfield) Levi of Brookline, MA; and a step-grandson Braxton Tanfield of Clearwater, FL.
