Rev. Ferrill Davis, Sr. Obituary

Reverend Ferrill Ray Davis Sr., age 79, of Milton, Kentucky, and the son of the late Harold W. and Helen L. Davis, was born on February 14, 1946, in Fredericksburg, Indiana. After graduating from high school, Ferrill joined the United States Army on July 30, 1964 and was honorably discharged three times over the next 24 years. He attended Boyce Bible College and was a honor graduate of the Chaplain's Assistant School of the Kentucky Army National Guard. On September 11, 1965, he was united in marriage to Phyllis G. (Perkins) Davis, and they were blessed with three children: Ray, Rob, and Paige. Over the years, he owned Davis Insurance Agency in New Castle, Kentucky and was a senior case worker for the Cabinet of Human Resources. He was also a former employee of IBM and Sylvania Glass Plant, and was more recently a funeral associate at Lytle Welty Funeral Home & Cremation Service.

Ferrill was a devoted believer in Jesus Christ and was ordained into ministry where he faithfully preached the Word of God for over 40 years. In 1982, he began preaching at the Sulphur Baptist Church in Sulphur, Kentucky, and was also the Kentucky State Chaplain's Assistant in the Kentucky Army National Guard in Frankfort, Kentucky. After six years, he became the Pastor of Milton Baptist Church where he served for 19 years. During his time at Milton Baptist Church, he suffered several heart attacks and eventually had to resign as he was in need of a heart transplant in 2008. After recovering for the next two years, he returned to the pulpit at Bedford Baptist Church where he ministered until 2015. A preacher always has another sermon to preach. In 2017, he became the Pastor of Antioch Baptist Church where he preached until he retired in April of 2024. Ferrill loved people and loved preaching.

Ferrill was a former board member of the Church Relations at Cumberland College in Williamsburg, Kentucky, Moderator of the Oldham/Trimble Baptist Association, and executive board member of the Kentucky Baptist Convention. He was also the former chairman of the City Commissioners of Milton, Kentucky, and former member of the Trimble County Board of Health, Building Commission to Remodel Trimble County Board of Health, Trimble County Head Start Program, Trimble County Youth Drug Awareness Committee, and the Lions Club. In his spare time, he loved to golf, build and repair golf clubs, woodworking especially building clocks, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Rev. Ferrill Davis, Sr. passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at the Norton King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Indiana with his loving family by his side.

His life will be cherished by his wife of 59 years, Phyllis of Milton; his sons: Ferrill "Ray" Davis, Jr. and his wife, Nora of Campbellsburg, Kentucky and Robert Michael "Rob" Davis and his wife, Tracey of Milton; 11 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, as well as two great grandchildren that he was anxiously waiting to be born, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Paige Leigh Davis in 2005 and his brother, Robert H. Davis.
