Life story Robert "Bob" Lee Claghorn, age 81, of North Vernon, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, November 17, 2018 at the Schneck Medical Center in Seymour, Indiana. Born September 26, 1937 in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of Nathan and Bertha (Wyatt) Claghorn. On August 19, 1955, Bob entered the United States Navy where he served for three years before being honorably discharged. He graduated Cum Laude from Hanover College with a bachelor's degree in Sociology. On January 25, 1975, he was united in marriage to Nanette Moldenhauer at the Calvary Baptist Church in Madison, Indiana He retired as a Rehab Counselor from Indiana Vocational Rehabilitation but had previously worked in social services at the Muscatatuck State Hospital. He was a member of the Christ Episcopal Church, the Kentucky Colonels, the American Civil Liberties Union, Southern Poverty Law Center, and the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. He loved bluegrass music, baseball, reading, classic literature, and watching University of Kentucky basketball and football. He enjoyed coaching little league football, soccer, and baseball in Madison and was simply about helping others.. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Nanette of North Vernon; his daughter, Kara Claghorn of North Vernon; his brother, Larry Claghorn and his wife, Annabelle of Madison; and his nieces and nephews: James Claghorn, Janet Reeves, Stephen Lichlyter, Tracy Smith, Jennifer Lichlyter-Ison, Todd Lichlyter, Gretchen Pyles, and Tiffany McGillan. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kevin Claghorn; his brother, Bernard Claghorn; his sister, Edith Steppe; and his nephew: Joseph Claghorn. The Reverend Evelyn Wheeler will conduct funeral services at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 24, 2018 at the Christ Episcopal Church, 506 Mulberry Street, Downtown Madison, with interment to follow in the Indiana Veterans' Memorial Cemetery. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Main Street Chapel from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Friday, November 23, 2018, and from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM on Saturday. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Mercy Rescue and Adoption, Inc. in North Vernon. Contributions may be made at any of the Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service locations.
