Robert Stewart "Bob" Elswick, age 85, of Madison, Indiana, and the son of the late James and Daisy (Bentley) Elswick, was born on February 28, 1939, in Whitesburg, Kentucky. On June 21, 1958, he was united in marriage to Annetta L. Kiser and they were blessed with four children: Trina, Rod, James, and Twila. He worked as a coal miner for several years in Kentucky before he relocated to Chicago, Illinois for a short time. Then his family moved to the Madison, Indiana area where he worked at the Morrow tobacco warehouse, Madison Mobile Homes, and Grote Industries, all while farming as well. He started and operated two businesses, A-1 Tree Company and later R & W Drywall. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing Rook, and watching sports on television, especially the Cincinnati Reds and University of Kentucky Basketball. More than anything, he loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. While he could be quite the character, he was a really good man to all who knew him. Mr. Elswick passed away on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at the Norton King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison.
His life will be cherished by his children: Trina Vernon, of Scottsburg, Indiana, Rod Elswick, and his wife, Karen of Cross Plains, Indiana, James "Jay" Elswick and his wife, Angela, of North Vernon, Indiana, and Twila Nickell, of Madison; his sister: Mary Joyce Tackett of Virgie, Kentucky; his brother: Andrew Elswick of Florence, Kentucky; his grandchildren: Derek Buchanan (Leslie), Nathan Nickell, Natalie McCollough (Dustin), Noah Nickell (Heather), Neci Nickell, Nan Warren (Will), Shea Mays (Chad), Maranda Ater (Jordan), Robert Vernon (Karen), and Amber Howard; many great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Annetta Elswick; his son-in-law: Dave Vernon; his grandson: Steven Vernon; his great granddaughter: McKenzie Nickell; his brothers: Elzie Elswick and Bluford Elswick; and his sister: Christine Cook.
