Samuel R. Reed, age 60, of Hanover, Indiana, and the son of the late Orliff Paul Reed, Sr. and Darleen (Freeman) Reed, was born on March 28, 1965. During his teen years, Sam worked for Barker Brothers helping in the tobacco fields. Throughout his life, he worked in multiple restaurants in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Cleveland, Tennessee. During his time in Chattanooga, he enjoyed visiting with residents at local nursing homes and was baptized in Jesus Christ in the Christian church. For over fifteen years, he built grain bins for Yoder Grain Bin Sales in Madison. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching movies (especially scary ones), listening to music, going fishing, and playing pool. Samuel was a very caring and loving man who would give you the shirt off his back. He was known for being a jokester, and often spent time at various family members' residences. Mr. Reed passed away on Monday, September 8, 2025 at the Aperion Care of Hanover.
His life will be cherished by his cousins: Charlotte Newman and her wife, Angel McDowell of Madison, Connie Smith and her husband, Robert of Madison, Patty Carson of Madison, Eugene Crittenden of Versailles, Indiana, Tony Newman of Madison, Willie Newman of Madison, Sandra Ely of Bedford, Kentucky, Richard Freeman of Madison, Misty McNeely and her husband, Mike of Madison, Sarah Sparkman and her husband, Alan of Fulton, Kentucky/Tennessee, Gladys Meredith of Seymour, Indiana, James Ely of Bedford, John Ely of Jeffersonville, Indiana, and many other cousins; his nephews: Ronnie Dale Reed and Charles Whalen; and his niece: Katherine Jo Reed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers: Daniel Reed, Roger Dale Reed, Roy Everett Reed, and Orliff Paul Reed, Jr.; his grandparents, and several aunts and uncles.
A visitation to honor Samuel's life will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025 from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM at the Lytle Welty Funeral Home & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, Madison with interment to follow in Springdale Cemetery.
The family requests memorial contributions be made to the Samuel Reed Memorial Fund to help with funeral expenses. Contributions may be made at the Lytle Welty Funeral Home or below.
