Steve Whittaker Obituary

Steve Raymond Whittaker, age 76, of Milan, Indiana, and the son of the late Paul Raymond and Mary Avis (Hankins) Whittaker, was born on September 22, 1948, in Rushville, Indiana. On August 8, 1968, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and continued to serve his country when he transferred to the Marine Corps Reserves on August 7, 1972. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps Reserves on August 8, 1974. For many years, he worked as a Weld Machine Operator at Batesville Tool & Die. On September 22, 2006, he was united in marriage to Cheryl Lynn Henson in Greensburg, Indiana, and they enjoyed 21 wonderful years together. In his spare time, he enjoyed doing yard work, fishing, collecting coins and knives, bowling, and singing karaoke especially Elvis Presley songs. Steve was an avid fan of the Cincinnati Reds and the Indiana Pacers, and loved spending time with his animals, especially his dogs: Zoey, Trudy, and Lucy. Mr. Whittaker passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 24, 2025 at his residence in Milan, with his loving wife by his side.

His life will be cherished by his wife, Cheryl of Milan; his brother, Mark Randall Whittaker of Madison; his sister, Carolyn Sue Puckett of Connersville, Indiana; his mother-in-law, Shirley Jean Henson of Milan; his brothers-in-law, Anthony Gene Henson and his wife, Tammy of Moores Hill, Indiana, and James Raymond Henson and his wife, Lisa of Milan; several nieces and nephews including Bradley Henson and his wife, Sierra who helped care for Steve these last few months; and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters: Shirley Alexander Strain, Judith Arlene Blake, and Teresa Whittaker; two brothers: Ronnie Paul Whittaker and Bart Kevin Whittaker; and his father-in-law, Anthony Henson.

The Honor Guard from the United States Marine Corps and the Major Samuel Woodfill Post #9, American Legion will conduct military honors at 5:00 PM Friday, May 30, 2025 at Lytle Welty Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 117 Holt Drive, Madison. Friends and family may visit at the Lytle Welty Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Vail Chapel from 3:00 PM until the time of the service on Friday.
