Life story Mrs. Vera May Cheatham, age 92, of Madison, Indiana, and the daughter of the late Edward and Nellie (Dunn) Jones, was born May 26, 1927, in Vevay, Indiana. She graduated from Madison High School in 1945. Vera was a former employee of the Madison State Hospital, and Conn Organ as well as performing cleaning services, and babysitting/childcare services for various families in the Madison area. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Madison. She loved crocheting, solving word search puzzles, working jig-saw puzzles, and spending time with her family. Vera was married to Gene Cheatham on December 13, 1947 in Jeffersonville, Indiana and spent most of her life in Madison. Mrs. Cheatham passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 at The Waters of Clifty Falls in Madison. Her life will be cherished by two daughters, Kristine Damon (Bob) of Capistrano Beach, CA, and Debbie Alcorn (Garry) of Lexington,IN; one son, David Cheatham (Gayla) of North Vernon, IN; one sister, Jean Ralston of Hesperia, CA; three grandsons, Jason Cheatham (Nora) of San Antonio, TX, Nathan Damon (Candace) of Capistrano Beach, CA, and Forest Alcorn of Hanover, IN; two granddaughters, Amy Eberwine (Stephen) of Indianapolis, IN, and Nicole Damon of New York, NY; five great-grandsons, Bryce Damon, Cameron Damon,and Parker Damon of Capistrano Beach, CA, and Jayden Cheatham and Josiah Cheatham of San Antonio, TX ; three great-granddaughters, Madeline Wilson, Julia Wilson, and Emma Wilson of Indianapolis, IN; two step great-granddaughters, Elena Eberwine and Hope Eberwine of Indianapolis, IN. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gene Cheatham; two brothers, Lester Jones and Russell Jones; and three sisters, Rosemary Purvis, Kathleen Gray, and Martha Dixon. Reverend Randy Crutchfield will conduct funeral services at 4:00 PM Saturday November 23, 2019 at Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, on Madison's hilltop with interment to be private. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM Saturday, November 23, 2019. There will be a gathering at the First Baptist Church of Madison in the Church Fellowship Hall for family and friends after the service. The family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society or First Baptist Church. Contributions may be made at the Lytle Welty Funeral Homes or below.
