Life story Wayne M. Jenkins, age 77, of Madison, passed away on Thursday, July 25, 2019 at his residence. Born January 6, 1942 in Pennington Gap, Virginia, he was the son of Charles Preston, Sr. and Ruby Mae Martin Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins graduated in 1960 from Pennington High School in Pennington Gap, and served for six years in the Virginia National Guard. He moved to Madison in 1978 and began working for Kentucky Utilities in Carrollton, Kentucky, retiring as a unit operator on January 1, 2002 after twenty-two years of service. On November 11, 2000, he was united in marriage to the former Peggy J. McJunkin in Warren, Michigan. Mr. Jenkins was an honor student in high school, and played basketball, football and baseball while attending there. He lettered all four years in all three sports. He was a member of North Madison Christian Church and enjoyed restoring and painting cars. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Peggy; two sons: Kerry W. Jenkins and his wife, Elizabeth of Greenville, Tennessee, and Jeffrey M. Jenkins of Bluff City, Tennessee; one daughter: Jana N. Long and her husband, Travis of Madison; four step-daughters: Novesia Martiss and her husband, Gerald of Washington Township, Michigan, Rhonda Castillo and her husband, Eddie and Terri Riley and her husband, Thomas, all of Madison Heights, Michigan; Judy Kauffman and her husband, Chris of Clinton Township, Michigan; one sister, Betty A. Wood of Louisville, Kentucky; five grandchildren: Skyler Hoffman-Jenkins of Madison, Petty Officer 3rd Class Austin W. Wilson, stationed with the United States Navy at Goose Creek, South Carolina, Kerri-Ann Jenkins of Bristol, Virginia, Jenna Wilson and Kailas Long, both of Madison; ten step-grandchildren; five step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles Jenkins, Jr. in February 1997; and one step-grandson, Jeremy Martiss in October 1999. The Reverend Frank McGee will conduct funeral services at 1:00 PM Saturday, July 27, 2019 at the Lytle Welty Fuenral Homes and Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, 177 Holt Drive, on Madison's Hilltop. Friends and family may call at the funeral home form 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM Saturday. The family requests contributions in memory of Mr. Jenkins be made to the Madison-Jefferson County Animal Shelter.
