Wilma (Wood) Oakley

Wilma Wood Oakley, age 102, passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter in Milton, Kentucky on December 31, 2021.

She was born on November 17, 1919 in Milton, Kentucky to Wilbur and Inez Bird Wood. On October 22, 1939, she was united in marriage to Vincent W. Oakley and was married for 44 years until his death in 1983. They were blessed with two children, a daughter Nancy and a son Donald. She was a graduate of Wilson Business School and the Kentucky School of Mortuary Science. She was a licensed funeral director and embalmer and together with her husband and son, owned and operated the Wood-Oakley Funeral Home in Milton for over 50 years. She was a member of the Bedford, Kentucky Order of Eastern Star and served as Worthy Matron. Her service to her community included 23 years on the Trimble County Board of Health, and volunteering to prepare water bills for the first year of the new Milton City Water System in the early 1950's. She was a life-long member of the Milton United Methodist Church and at the time of her death, was its oldest member.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Inez Bird Wood; her husband, Vincent "Pete" Oakley; her son, Donald Oakley; two sisters, Doris Chapman and Jean Cobb; two nieces, Cynthia Wood Cobb and Peggy Chapman Foley; and one son-in-law, John Price.

She is survived by her daughter, Nancy Price and her grandson, Robbie Price (Amber) both of Midland, Michigan; two nieces, Gaye Willis of Milton and Joy Willis of Bradenton, Florida, and a host of other "adopted" relatives and friends.

Reverend Wayne Mahoney will conduct funeral services at 11:00 AM Friday, January 7, 2022 at Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel, on Madison's hilltop with interment to follow in Moffett Cemetery in Milton, Kentucky. Friends and family may call at the Lytle Welty Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, Vail Chapel from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM Thursday, January 6, 2022, and from 10:00 AM until the time of the service on Friday.
