Zona Gail Short, age 89, of Bloomington, Indiana, formerly of Madison, Indiana, and the daughter of the late Hurley and Kathryn (Kreeger) Rowlett, was born on November 2, 1934, in Madison. She was united in marriage to Charles "Bud" Short in 1952 and they were blessed with five children: Steve, Cathy, Chuck, Donnie, and Cindy. She worked with her husband in real estate for many years, prior to moving to Bloomington, Indiana in 1992 to join their son, Chuck in the residential construction and development business.
She was an avid doll collector and belonged to the Madison and Bloomington Doll Clubs. For over sixty years, she was a member of a women's card club in Madison. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, and more recently enjoyed their Sunday family dinners together. She knew how to make each of her children feel like they were her favorite. She was also a member of the Sherwood Oaks Christian Church in Bloomington. She enjoyed eating at Red Lobster, playing Yahtzee with her sister, Carol, collecting dolls, and baking. Mrs. Short passed away on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at her residence in Bloomington.
She is survived by her children: Steve Short and his wife, Carly of Madison, Cathy Hale, of Madison, Chuck Short and his wife, Diane of Bloomington, and Cindy Short, of Bloomington; her grandchildren: Christa Skirvin, Johnna Davis, Luke Short, Danielle Shields, Zac Short, Chris Hale, Eric Short, Feliza Short, Jamie Smith, Kyler Smith, and Shelby Short; nineteen great grandchildren; her sisters: Phyllis Young and Carol Hooley; and her brother: Jim Rowlett. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles "Bud" Short who passed away on May 8, 2006; her son, Donald Allen "Donnie" Short who passed away in May of 1959; her grandson: Matthew Hale who passed away on November 25, 2004; her sister: Mary Jo Hall; and her brother: Curt Rowlett.
Cremation was chosen and private family services will take place at a later date.
